UA Crit p/b UMC

Hello everyone!

Our race is this weekend, February 26th.

If you would like more information about the race here is the race bible: http://uacycling.com/2011Bible.pdf

WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!!!
Registration help - Good for those with organizational and customer service skills :) You are running the pre-race check in process, receiving payments, and preparing the starts lists. One volunteer will be in charge of organizing prizes, and posting results post-races. We need 5-3 volunteers at the registration table starting as early as 5:45am.

Course Marshals
- Your primary job is to keep pedestrians, bicyclists, spectators, and motor vehicles off the course. While we will have 2 UAPD officers on site and 3 PTS enforcement staff to aid in keeping the course closed (along with barricades and signs), it's still important that we are out there. Each course marshal station will have a chair, radio, and safety vest. You will need to use the radio if there's a crash on your corner to alert the EMT on site. We need up to 9 volunteers working as course marshals from 7:00am-5:00pm.

Announcers - We have a PA and sound system thanks to Guitars, Etc that needs to be put to use. If you're comfortable announcing races (or would like to give it a try), please help us out in this area.

Race Set-up - For those of you who enjoy your early mornings...please help sweep corners and set-up before the race. We probably need 2 volunteers to help with this from 5:00am-7:00am.

Race Tear-down - There has usually been plenty of people around to help--so I'm banking on that again this year. Thanks everyone for the help last year!

Meeting Minutes 14th of Feb.

Hey everyone!

ASU cycling crit is this weekend! We have Cedric coordinating how we are getting up there and if you have paid the race team, Cedric will register you. He will be creating a google doc spreadsheet to organize who is going, and what is going to happen this weekend.

UofA crit is the weekend after ASU. Please watch your e-mails for volunteer schedules/meeting/ect. We will be paying your entry fee in exchange for volunteer hours. So again, keep your eyes/ears on the lookout for e-mails with more detail for this.

If you raced last weekend, you will be comped at the next meeting. We will be covering your race entry fee if you have paid the race team membership. You will only be reimbursed the fee of the race, if you have a late fee that will be covered by you.

Finally our next meeting will be February 28th in the Northern Conference Room at 6.30pm. Hope to see you all there!!

PAG Bike Count Volunteers Needed!

The PAG Annual Bike Counts are approaching. Over 100 intersections are counted from Oct. 19-21 from 7am-9am and 4pm-6pm. The counts are used document the number of people out biking, and this data gathered over time is used to provide trends on bike use in Tucson. Also, the data helps prioritize and justify bicycle facility improvements.

The effort is entirely volunteer driven--so we need you! The minimum time commitment is 2 hours, although 4 hours of volunteer time allows you to cover an entire intersection. To volunteer, you must attend one of two upcoming training sessions. At the training sessions, you sign up for a counting location and receive your recording materials. The sessions are:
  • Thursday, October 14, 6:00pm, Ward VI Office (3202 E 1st St.)
  • Saturday, Octover 16, 9:00am, Ward VI Office
The UA Cycling Club members have helped out the past two years, and are volunteering again in 2010. We are having our regular club meeting this Thursday (Oct 14), at the bike count training session. Afterwards, we are meeting for dinner at La Salsa on Speedway. Please join us if you'd like!

If you have questions related to the count, please contact Ann Chanecka (achanecka@pagnet.org).
