PAG Bike Count Volunteers Needed!
The PAG Annual Bike Counts are approaching. Over 100 intersections are counted from Oct. 19-21 from 7am-9am and 4pm-6pm. The counts are used document the number of people out biking, and this data gathered over time is used to provide trends on bike use in Tucson. Also, the data helps prioritize and justify bicycle facility improvements.
The effort is entirely volunteer driven--so we need you! The minimum time commitment is 2 hours, although 4 hours of volunteer time allows you to cover an entire intersection. To volunteer, you must attend one of two upcoming training sessions. At the training sessions, you sign up for a counting location and receive your recording materials. The sessions are:
If you have questions related to the count, please contact Ann Chanecka (achanecka@pagnet.org).

Bike Ambassadors Job Opportunity
Hello,
The Pima County Bike Ambassadors are looking to hire some students to help with bike education & outreach efforts on campus. The pay is $8/hr if you are under 18, and $10/hr if you're older. Currently, they are looking for students to work the following days/time:
Thursday (9-16): 8:30am-11:30am and/or 1:30-3:30pm (they'd like 2 students per shift)
Monday (9-20): 8:30am-11:30am and/or 1:30-3:30pm
The work would involve handing out Tucson-Pima bike maps, Share the Road guides, and talking with bikers and pedestrians about biking on campus (and being courteous and safe). The locations would be set on or near campus. There are also additional opportunities to work if you find this is something you enjoy.
The one requirement is that you take a bike safety class taught by a LAB (League of American Bicyclists) certified instructor within the next month. You can find the class schedule here: http://bikeped.pima.gov/Safety/SeptOct%202010%20Road%201%20Schedule.pdf
I know this is a last minute notice, but it's an opportunity for some very flexible work that encourages biking in Tucson. Also, let me know if you're interested even if you can't work the shifts above--there will be other opportunities.
Please e-mail me if you're interested.

Race Weekend Coming Up! XC & DH
Mountain Bikers,
There is a race this weekend!
If you are interested in going to this race in Albuquerque please let me know as soon as you can! Preregistration ends at midnight this Thursday. Events include Downhill or Cross Country. We will be leaving this Friday and returning Sunday. We are trying to set up accommodations with some fellow riders from NMU but if we cant make that work air mattresses and tents will be our best friends. There will be more info at the meeting on Thursday. If you can't make the meeting let me know. Please let me know if you have any further questions. The more people we can get out there to represent the U of A the better! You can email me or call me at 520-301-6064.
Thanks,
