The PAG Annual Bike Counts are approaching. Over 100 intersections are counted from Oct. 19-21 from 7am-9am and 4pm-6pm. The counts are used document the number of people out biking, and this data gathered over time is used to provide trends on bike use in Tucson. Also, the data helps prioritize and justify bicycle facility improvements.
The effort is entirely volunteer driven--so we need you! The minimum time commitment is 2 hours, although 4 hours of volunteer time allows you to cover an entire intersection. To volunteer, you must attend one of two upcoming training sessions. At the training sessions, you sign up for a counting location and receive your recording materials. The sessions are:
- Thursday, October 14, 6:00pm, Ward VI Office (3202 E 1st St.)
- Saturday, Octover 16, 9:00am, Ward VI Office
The UA Cycling Club members have helped out the past two years, and are volunteering again in 2010. We are having our regular club meeting this Thursday (Oct 14), at the bike count training session. Afterwards, we are meeting for dinner at La Salsa
on Speedway. Please join us if you'd like!
If you have questions related to the count, please contact Ann Chanecka (achanecka@pagnet.org).
